I've always loved the satirical Art of William Hogarth , James Gillray and Isaac Cruikshank amongst others. In a healthy society we should all be able to hold a mirror up to power. Many or even most acclaimed artists have done this in the past through art, poetry and song. The art of satire is something I enjoy and even at school my main piece for my O-level art was an AO sized pencil drawing of The Queen sat on a Harley Davidson Chopper Motorbike. It would probably hardly raise an eyebrow these days, but back then it was considered extremely shocking. When it was displayed in the school hall on Parents Evening there were many open mouthed adults, including my own parents. My mother was still telling people about how shocking it was and laughing, well into her 80's. I really wish I had a copy of it; but sadly it was the only picture stolen from the display. Whether that was because someone loved it and wanted to keep it, or whether they wanted to rip it to shreds I'll never know? I've made lots of satirical art since then though, and here's a few of them..
